{"id":410,"date":"2015-02-09T17:51:51","date_gmt":"2015-02-09T22:51:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wyvernhall.com\/wordpress\/?p=410"},"modified":"2015-02-09T17:51:51","modified_gmt":"2015-02-09T22:51:51","slug":"the-passing-of-soke-john-larlee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/wyvernhall.com\/wordpress\/?p=410","title":{"rendered":"The Passing of Soke John Larlee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of my Tang Soo Do instructors posted a sad notice on Facebook a few days ago announcing that\u00a0Dr. John Larlee, 10th dan Soke of Beikoku Mizu Ryu JuJitsu,\u00a0had passed away at the age of 83.\u00a0 I never had the privilege of meeting Soke Larlee but something about the post caught my attention.\u00a0 It seems Soke Larlee was a remarkable man; instructor, Grand Master in Jujitsu, Master in Kodokan Judo and\u00a0Shotokan Karate.\u00a0 He was also a\u00a0notable past champion competitor\u00a0in Connecticut and New England.<\/p>\n<p>Soke Larlee was part of the first generation of martial artists to bring the martial arts to the United States after encountering them overseas while in the military.\u00a0 The American martial arts community largely owes its existence to men like him, some of whom have already passed on leaving their legacy\u00a0to their students and successors.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wyvernhall.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Cover.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-411 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/wyvernhall.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Cover-233x300.png\" alt=\"Cover\" width=\"233\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/wyvernhall.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Cover-233x300.png 233w, http:\/\/wyvernhall.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Cover.png 521w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 233px) 100vw, 233px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/wyvernhall.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Page332.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-412 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/wyvernhall.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Page332-232x300.png\" alt=\"Page332\" width=\"232\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/wyvernhall.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Page332-232x300.png 232w, http:\/\/wyvernhall.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Page332.png 651w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 232px) 100vw, 232px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Active in the martial arts community until the very end, Soke Larlee was a member of the <a title=\"World Head of Family Sokeship Council\" href=\"http:\/\/www.whfsc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">World Head of Family Sokeship Council<\/a>, a prestigious and very exclusive organization of 9th and 10th degree black belts internationally recognized as Masters and Grand Masters.
